A new European initiative aims to reshape the future of small and medium-sized enterprises: ESG Essentials, a project funded by the Erasmus+ programme and designed to promote a strong culture of sustainability among SMEs.
Among the partners of the international consortium is Connectus, a Greek organisation specialising in training and professional development.
The project seeks to introduce and mainstream Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles within the European business ecosystem by providing practical tools and targeted training pathways. Its ambition is clear: to address the existing skills gap and empower SMEs to become active contributors to the sustainable transition.
Highlighting the strategic importance of the initiative, Elizabeth, spokesperson for Connectus, explains:
“ESG is now central to all types of businesses. The demand for training, certification and operational skills is growing rapidly. ESG Essentials was created to respond to this need, and for us it is one of the most significant projects currently underway.”
The project places a strong focus on small and medium-sized enterprises, which are often excluded from structured training opportunities but are increasingly required to align with ESG criteria in order to remain competitive and compliant with new European regulations. ESG Essentials aims to provide concrete, accessible and immediately applicable resources to support day-to-day business management.
“Understanding ESG in theory is no longer enough,” Elizabeth adds. “Businesses need to be able to apply it in their daily operations. With ESG Essentials, we aim to offer practical tools, hands-on materials and learning opportunities that respond to real needs.”
In an international context where sustainability is becoming a defining factor for competitiveness, ESG Essentials represents a key initiative to strengthen the resilience and long-term viability of the European productive system. The involvement of Connectus, together with the other project partners, ensures a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach, bringing together training, innovation and social responsibility to support SMEs across Europe.
